The assumption that the worst is going to happen because of a pessimistic attitude when generalizing a situation and ignoring positive side of the situation leads to mood fluctuations. Even for the ordinary activities like buying things from a grocery store, worst case cases are considered. Incidents in traumatic life lead a person to consider the worst-case scenario in virtually every situation. The culture blames hormones because of many causes such as menopause, premenstrual or puberty when women behave uncomfortable and moody. Rapid hormonal changes during pregnancy and after giving birth to children make women feel overwhelmed especially when they fail to meet their own and other’s expectations.

Symptoms of mood disorder vary, just as women's behavior is not the same, so a particular treatment strategy is needed to resolve underlying factors so attempts to improve exercise, diet, and hormonal balance that could lead to disorder. A nutritionally deficient diet leads to blood sugar spikes, and the person experiences reaction mood changes. Dehydration decreases blood flow to the brain, and a signal is obtained from the brain after identification of dehydration by person's mood deregulation. Often, due to lack of focus, it's normal to forget even the simplest items, feel insecure making tough decisions when coping with mood swings that further cause a sense of worthlessness. Workplace or academic performance is seriously impaired and stopping participation in that particular case is normal for avoiding negative thought and being disturbed by it time and time again. Peers find it uneasy to cope up with the fluctuations in mood of patient.

A person's emotions run up and down depending on life circumstances; hormonal balance is important to regulate the brain when coping with complex situations. Healthy habits such as the intake of healthy protein, vitamins, and meditation often help to improve immunity to any such illness.

Mood swings interfere with a person's life activities like relationships, work, or schooling. A medical treatment may be required to cope adequately with the symptoms in order to stay healthy and productive. Getting a strong sense of causes may help with moderate, and occasional mood swings.

The use of drugs and alcohol has become normal in managing daily stress without understanding that it causes new problems by increasing the amount of dopamine. The use of other medications such as antidepressants may lead to the changes of mood. Long-term violence leads to stress that contributes to changes in brain chemistry that can influence heart rate, breathing, and energy levels and ultimately alter behavioral control and decision-making capacity to leave a person confused. Pulses of rage turning inward contribute to regular emotional outbursts in the form of frustration. Giving up on ideals and ambitions when they seem unachievable results in self-esteem collapse making a person vulnerable to losing control of emotions.
